Motorists trapped by flood water Drivers rescued from flood water

An elderly man has been rescued from his car after it was engulfed by "waist-high" flood water in Greenock. Four people have been rescued from vehicles which were engulfed by "waist high" flood water in Greenock.
The man was taken from the car by officers from Strathclyde Fire and Rescue in Cumberland Road at about 1440 GMT on Friday. An elderly disabled man was removed from a car and taken to Inverclyde Hospital for treatment.
He was taken to Inverclyde Hospital for treatment. His condition is not known. Strathclyde Fire and Rescue also helped two men from a van and a woman from a lorry. They did not require treatment.
It is understood that four cars were stranded in the town by rising flood water. Attempts have been continuing to remove three other people. The vehicles were caught in rising flood water in the town's Cumberland Road and Westmorland Road at about 1420 GMT on Friday.
Strathclyde Fire and Rescue said it was also dealing with flooding incidents in parts of Ayrshire. A spokeswoman for the fire service said the incidents had now been dealt with but the emergency services would remain at the scene for some time.
