Postpartum Peeing, The Microbiome!? and Daylight Saving Strategies

Version 0 of 1.

Peeing every time you sneeze is not O.K. And yet, incontinence after pregnancy is considered a punch line, not a problem. “Only about 25 percent of women affected by incontinence seek care,” wrote Katherine Hobson in our guide to post-pregnancy peeing, which includes how to understand the issue, the kinds of doctors who can help and what to expect if you seek treatment.

Also new this week, NYT Parenting reporter Christina Caron answered a question many of us had: Why do we keep hearing about the microbiome? As in, this baby soap (or lotion or supplement) is “biome-friendly.” Dr. Craig Canapari, M.D., director of Yale-New Haven Hospitals’ Pediatric Sleep Center gave us tips for how to prepare for daylight saving time; and our friends at Wirecutter explained the child tax credit, in case you’re heading into open enrollment season.

Plus, don’t miss our latest personal stories: Jen Malia wrote about being diagnosed with autism on the same day as her 2-year-old daughter, and Katie Hawkins-Gaar shared what she learned after losing a spouse on the way to parenthood. Links to all of these stories are below, and you can keep in touch with us on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

Parenting can be a grind. Let’s celebrate the tiny victories.

We live about a block from an ice cream shop, and convinced our 2-year-old that going out for ice cream meant sampling one or two flavors. Mom and Dad go home with a pint for after bedtime.
