A child has died on a railway line in Merseyside. A boy found dead on a railway line is thought to have been electrocuted, police have said.

A spokeswoman confirmed a person was pronounced dead at the scene, but did not confirm the age or gender of the victim, or whether or not a train was involved. Det Ch Insp Steve Lewis appealed for information about this "incredibly tragic incident".
"While we have no reason to be believe there were any suspicious circumstances to this incident, we are still working to establish the full circumstances behind the boy's death," he said.
Det Ch Insp Lewis urged anyone "who may have seen two young boys close to the tracks around this time" to contact police.
