Guard shot during cash delivery

A security guard was shot in the leg by robbers as he delivered money to a cash machine in Lancashire.

The man is seriously ill in hospital after the shooting in Blackburn but his condition was not thought to be life-threatening, police said.

Two men wearing balaclavas confronted the guard on Preston Old Road at about 0715 GMT.

The pair fled with cash towards Green Lane. Officers are searching nearby areas and have cordoned off the scene.

The guard was delivering to a cash machine at a former estate agency when he was targeted.

The two robbers must not be approached, Lancashire police said.

A spokeswoman added: "This is a live incident and public safety comes first."
