A police support worker who was shot during a Thames Valley Police firearms training session is to sue the force over the incident. The unnamed civilian employee was injured last May at police headquarters in Kidlington, Oxfordshire. Police spokesman Pierre Du Bois told the BBC: "I can confirm that we are facing legal action." The officer involved in the incident faces a misconduct hearing, although he will not face criminal charges. The victim was attending a lecture on gun safety in Kidlington when he was wounded in the torso and was treated at the John Radcliffe Hospital. The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) was called in to investigate by Thames Valley Police. The training session is part of an induction for police support staff to provide them with basic firearms awareness. The sessions - run by fully trained firearms officers - are held throughout the year usually on a six to eight week basis. |
