Unexploded bomb found under pier Unexploded bomb found under pier

Divers have found an old unexploded torpedo wedged in the structure of Largs Pier in Ayrshire. Army explosives experts have made safe a unexploded torpedo found buried beneath the pier at Largs in Ayrshire.
A navy boat picked up the bomb and took it to the other side of Millport, where bomb disposal experts were to carry out a controlled explosion. The old army ordnance device was found on Monday afternoon by divers working within the water at Largs promenade.
A 100m safety cordon was put in place and all ferries were cancelled throughout the afternoon. A security cordon was immediately thrown around the scene and a controlled explosion was carried out on the torpedo at about 2300 GMT.
Earlier this year plans were unveiled to rebuild the pier, which is used by ferries on the Largs to Cumbrae route. Ferry services to Millport were disrupted during the security operation.
Meanwhile, a RNLI lifeboat from Kinghorn attended a vessel off Inchkeith Island in the Firth of Forth, which had drawn up an old mine.
The crew used a GPS plotter to accurately position the location where the boat's skipper was going to drop the mine, so the coastguard could notify the bomb disposal divers and alert other shipping in the area to the danger.
