Chat show presenter Jonathan Ross will be up for a British Comedy Award tonight, despite having stepped down as the host of this year's event.

Ross, currently suspended by the BBC, is up for best comedy entertainment programme for his BBC One show Friday Night with Jonathan Ross.

Other nominees include Graham Norton, Harry Hill and Russell Brand - up for best live stand-up performer.

Angus Deayton will host the ceremony at the London Television Studios.

The former Have I Got News For You? host stepped in after Ross pulled out in the wake of the Radio 2 prank calls row involving him and Brand.

Pop star

The event will be shown live on ITV1 following the broadcaster's decision not to air last year's ceremony.

Peep Show's David Mitchell, James Corden of Gavin and Stacey and Extras star Ricky Gervais are all up for best TV comedy actor this year.

Peep Show and Gavin and Stacey are also up for best TV comedy, as is ITV1 sitcom Benidorm.

Harry Hill has two nominations this year, as does Alan Carr of The Friday Night Project.

Ant and Dec, who hosted the final of I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here on Friday, are jointly nominated for the best comedy entertainment personality prize.

Earlier this year the Geordie duo returned a People's Choice award they had wrongly been presented at the 2005 event by pop star Robbie Williams.

It later emerged that The Catherine Tate Show had collected more votes and should have been the recipient.
