Babies promised a starring role in the 2012 Olympic Games wore toy hard hats as they celebrated their second birthday with Bob The Builder. To promote London's bid, 750 children born on 20 December 2004 were given the chance to be part of the opening and closing ceremonies at the London Games. The babies also met Gold medal winner Sally Gunnell and chairman Lord Coe at the London 2012 base in Canary Wharf. Work has begun on the Olympic Park, which can be seen from Canary Wharf. Lord Coe said: "It is not only fun to have them dressed as builders, it is symbolic, given the work that is already taking place. "These babies have reserved a place in history and will play a part in what we hope will be the best Olympic Games and Paralympic Games ever." Sally Gunnell, the 1992 Olympics 400m hurdles champion, said: "I was brought up near the east end of London and it is wonderful to be here close to the Olympic Park site with children who will play a part in the London 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games." |
