The tremor was felt from the Mexican border to the northern limits of Nevada, according to a reporter with the LA Times.
It is unclear if there were any injuries in the quake, but local emergency response agencies have been overwhelmed with calls.

The earthquake is the largest to hit Southern California since the 6.6 magnitude Northridge quake in 1994, which caused billions of dollars in damage and killed scores of people. The previous quake struck a far more populated area than Thursday’s.
