Gritters out as snow is forecast Drivers warned of road ice danger
(about 16 hours later)
Roads across Northern Ireland will be gritted overnight as temperatures plunge to between -3 and -5C. A severe overnight frost has left many Northern Ireland roads icy with police warning about driving conditions.
People living in Londonderry could wake up to a blanket of snow as snow showers are predicted overnight. Although all major routes were already gritted overnight, the gritters have been out again to re-treat areas of the west and north.
Between 1cm and 2cm of snow is expected on low ground with 2cm to 5cm on the hills. Dungannon, Limavady and Coleraine have all been badly hit, as have Ballymoney, Antrim and Larne.
A spokeswoman for the Roads Service said there was no severe weather warning, but snow showers are expected from Ballymena to Derry. The Omagh to Ballygawley and the Dundrum to Newcastle roads also needed extra gritting.
