An ambulance service spokesman said: "Ambulance crews with the help of fire crews also worked together to reach and treat the driver of the bus. Ian Wells, from the nearby Emporos gift shop and cafe, said two people had apparently got trapped under the bus and there was "quite a lot of commotion".
"Despite their collective best efforts, nothing could be done to save him." But he added the incident could have been a "lot, lot worse".

Mr Wells said: "Shops had started to close, so it had thinned out. It wasn't as busy as it was today (Saturday).
"We were just locking up the shop... heard a crash, somebody screamed 'Can you get an ambulance?'.
"Somebody ran out from the butchers' shop down the side of the road. I came out and the bus had gone into the building."
The ambulance service said it was called to the scene at about 1720 GMT on Friday.
