Speedy art marks Hendrix birthday

An artist has marked what would have been Jimi Hendrix's 66th birthday by creating an artwork set to one of the legendary guitarist's soundtracks.

Mark Eurich, from Lamberhurst, Kent, who is the official artist for the Jimi Hendrix Foundation, is selling the work to raise funds for the charity.

He painted his idol's portrait in the 14 minutes 51 seconds it took to play Hendrix's longest record, Voodoo Chile.

"It was a way of celebrating... the great man's birthday," Mr Eurich said.

'Energetic painter'

"I think anybody who likes real music is just going to be fascinated by the greatest musician who ever lived.

"I'm a very fast energetic painter but I don't look at the clock ever.

"It takes its own time and the painting will develop as it develops," he said.

The artwork can be seen as part of an exhibition called The One Week Art Show, at the Hen on the Gate Barn in Five Ashes, East Sussex, until Sunday.

It will then be sold in aid of the Jimi Hendrix Foundation, which helps young musicians all over the world.

The guitarist, famous for songs such as All Along The Watchtower and Purple Haze, died in 1970 in London aged 27.
