May’s plea to Tusk could prove a sticking point, with media reports circulating that the European Council president would prefer a year-long “flexible” extension to Article 50 that would run beyond April 12, 2019 to March 31, 2020. The proposal would allow the UK to leave the EU earlier if a Brexit deal were ratified.
Tusk is preparing to table to the plan in a critical Brexit summit of EU leaders on Wednesday, in a last ditch attempt to avoid the UK crashing out of the bloc without a deal on April 12, Reuters reports.
May’s plea to Tusk could prove a sticking point, with media reports circulating that the European Council president would prefer a year long “flexible” extension to Article 50 that would run beyond April 12, 2019 to March 31, 2020. In her letter, May insisted that the UK “remains strongly committed” to bringing an “orderly conclusion” to Brexit proceedings, despite finding the whole process “frustrating.”
