Shots have been fired near a motorcade carrying the Georgian and Polish presidents, officials say. The Georgian and Polish presidents have accused Russian troops of firing near a motorcade carrying them close to the breakaway republic of South Ossetia.
No injuries were reported in the incident, close to a checkpoint near Georgia's rebel South Ossetia region. Both South Ossetian troops and Russian forces in the area denied involvement. No-one was injured in the incident.
Georgian officials said the shots came from inside South Ossetia. But Russia and South Ossetia denied the claim. President Mikhail Saakashvili and his Polish counterpart Lech Kaczynski were planning to visit victims of fighting between Georgia and Russia in August.

But Russian peacekeepers in South Ossetia denied firing on the convoy. Mr Kaczynski said it was not clear if the gunfire was aimed at the motorcade or into the air.
He added that he had travelled to the remote checkpoint because he wanted to see whether Russian troops were in places they should not be according to the terms of the ceasefire agreement.
