Unconfirmed reports suggest that multiple police officers and several civilians have been shot. In a Twitter update, police have confirmed that the shooter no longer poses a threat to the community.
One witness who escaped the building told local news that he recognized the shooter as a coworker. The shooter was firing indiscriminately inside the building, the employee told ABC7. The Daily Herald reported several victims being airlifted to a nearby hospital.  “Active Shooter Incident has been secured,” police stated, noting that officers would remain in the area amid ongoing investigation.
“Multiple victims” have been taken to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove and Amita Health Mercy Medical Center in Aurora, The Daily Herald reported. There are also unconfirmed reports that at least one civilian was killed in the shooting.
Four police officers have been injured in the shootout with the suspect, ABC7 correspondent Mark Rivera reported on Twitter.
Rush Copley Hospital in Aurora has reported that it admitted two victims of the shooting and was treating them for non-life threatening injuries.
