Parents in Belfast have been urged not to buy scramblers, quads or scooters for their children this Christmas.

The council and police warned that the vehicles were often used illegally and dangerously in the city's parks.

"The harsh reality is that there have been fatalities as a result of the misuse of these vehicles," said Chief Inspector Darren Rice.

"These vehicles should only ever be used on private property where users have permission," he added.

"They must never be used on pavements, roads, public property or parks. We regularly receive reports about young people riding these scramblers and quads recklessly in public spaces and on the roads."
