The two 15-year-old boys, who cannot be named because of their age, were arrested on 23 December and charged. The pair appeared in court on Wednesday, wearing tracksuits, and were allowed to sit in the open dock rather than the secure dock because of their age. The police have informed Mendes’s next of kin. Mendes had lived in the UK since 2015 and was residing in Tottenham at the time of his death.
