On Sunday morning, rescuers recovered eight bodies from a mine shaft where the workers had been trapped by the raging fire. Earlier, eight out of seventeen miners were safely evacuated to the surface. One remains unaccounted for.

The incident occurred at 12pm local time, according to the mine’s owner, the Uralkali fertilizer producing company. The blaze erupted during construction works at the mine when temporary flooring caught fire, the emergency services told TASS.
