Evacuation after car park blaze

An elderly man has been taken to hospital and homes were evacuated after a fire early on Sunday in an underground car park. Firefighters called to Westlea Flats, Riverside, Cardiff, at 0040 GMT found two cars alight. The blaze was brought under control, and residents were later allowed home. In a separate incident, a pedestrian injured in a collision with a car near Cardiff Castle after the Wales-South Africa game was not seriously hurt. The pedestrian was injured at about 1840 GMT on Saturday in Castle Street following the rugby international at the nearby Millennium Stadium. The road was closed for more than an hour. |
