The family of Garry Newlove - who was murdered outside his Cheshire home - is launching a campaign in his memory.

Mr Newlove, 47, was kicked and punched by youths when he asked them if they had vandalised his wife's car in Fearnhead, Warrington, in August 2007.

He was left unconscious and died from his injuries two days later.

His widow Helen, 47, is now launching Newlove Warrington, which aims to improve the sense of community and opportunity across the town.

Gala evening

She and the couple's three daughters Zoe, Danielle and Amy hope the campaign will help to associate the Newlove name with something positive.

Mrs Newlove has teamed up with Warrington Wolves Rugby League Club to host a gala evening at The Halliwell Jones Stadium to start off the campaign on Saturday night.

Bolton comedian Peter Kay will compere at the event and Rick Astley, from Newton-le-Willows, is to perform.

She said: "When I contacted Peter Kay he said he would be honoured to be asked.

"Rick Astley is a local lad and Garry and I both liked his music, so it's a bit personal too."

Adam Swellings, 19, of Meredith Street, Crewe, Stephen Sorton, 17 of Honister Avenue, Warrington, and Jordan Cunliffe, 16, were convicted of murder in January.
