Glasgow's annual fireworks display will go ahead on Thursday night after being delayed to accommodate a football game.

The event at Glasgow Green, which starts at 1830 GMT with the display going ahead one hour later, is expected to attract about 50,000 people.

The original date of 5 November clashed with Celtic's Champions League home game against Manchester United.

Glasgow City Council feared traffic in the east end would not be able to cope with both events.

During Thursday's display more than 3,000 fireworks will be set off.

Organisers have asked people attending to wear appropriate clothing and not to bring their own fireworks.

Glasgow Lord Provost Robert Winter said: "I am very much looking forward to the fireworks.

"It is a spectacular event and is always enjoyed by the tens of thousands who go to see it each year.

"It really is the safest and best way to enjoy the celebrations in Glasgow."
