Detectives have been granted more time to question a man arrested on suspicion of terror offences, police said.

The 19-year-old was detained on Tuesday by police in Blackburn after being held under the Terrorism Act 2006.

Specialist police teams searched his bedsit on Burnley Road in the Lancashire town.

Police say officers have now been granted an extension until Saturday morning to continue to detain the suspect for questioning.

The arrest is part of an ongoing counter-terrorism operation between Lancashire Constabulary and Greater Manchester Counter Terrorism Unit.

It is believed the arrest is in connection with previous arrests in Blackburn, Derby, Accrington and Manchester Airport earlier this year.

Five men have since been charged with terrorism offences.
