News of the job losses was broken to Coulter's staff late on Tuesday and the owner of the company is said to be devastated. South Down MLA Jim Wells paid tribute to owner Gordon Coulter and said it appeared the firm was a victim of the downturn in the construction industry.
Gordon Coulter started the company 40 years ago and it was at one point the largest employer in the town with over 300 staff. "Gordon was a great employer. It's dreadful news and a very sad blow for the entire town," he said.
