Police said the Ford Mondeo hit the man, thought to be in his 50s or 60s, on the A244 in Hersham. A spokesman said the force was treating the crash as a "critical incident" and had informed the Independent Police Complaints Commission. Efforts are under way to identify the man and contact his next-of-kin. Officers said the incident happened at 1855 GMT on the A244 Esher Road, close to the junction with Ramornie Close. The pedestrian was declared dead at the scene. The spokesman said officers, including specialist collision investigators, remained at the scene on Tuesday night to establish the full circumstances. The A244 is closed between West End Lane and Molesey Road, and is likely to remain shut for most of the night. |
