Parliament to cut two top posts
http://news.bbc.co.uk/go/rss/-/1/hi/scotland/7709097.stm Version 0 of 1. The Scottish Parliament is to cut two senior management posts, its chief executive Paul Grice has confirmed. He said the move was needed to meet future challenges and would "reinvigorate" the top levels of management at the building. Compulsory redundancies have not been ruled out, but it is hoped the cuts will be made through early retirement or voluntary means. The news came as the parliament approached its 10th anniversary. The cuts, which will save at least £135,000 a year, would see one of the current five directors posts going. The parliament's information service, Spice, and the Official Report, which records parliamentary proceedings, will be merged to save another senior post. Mr Grice stated: "While the existing structures have served the parliament well, as we approach our 10th anniversary, this initiative will help us to refocus and reinvigorate senior management tiers through undertaking some succession planning and creating opportunities for staff in the middle and upper levels of the organisation to compete for promotion opportunities." The changes will come into effect in April, while guided tours of the parliament building, which currently cost £6, will become free. |
