Driver remanded over M-way deaths

A lorry driver accused of killing a family from Wales in a crash on the M6 in Cheshire has been remanded.

David and Michelle Statham, who were 38 and 33, and their children Reece, 13, Jay, nine, Mason, 20 months, and Ellouise, 10 weeks, died on October 20.

Portuguese man Paulo Jorge Nogueira da Silva, 46, appeared at Chester Crown Court charged with six counts of causing death by dangerous driving.

A funeral was held in their home town of Llandudno earlier.

A trial was set for 9 February with a plea and direction hearing on 13 January.
