Woman remanded on terror charge

A 40-year-old woman has appeared before magistrates accused of keeping a computer memory stick for terror-related purposes.

Houria Chahed Chentouf, from Longsight, Manchester, wore a full burka and spoke via an Arabic translator at the City of Westminster Magistrates' Court hearing.

Her arrest came after police searched addresses in Manchester and the Netherlands.

Ms Chentouf was remanded in custody until a bail application on 6 November.

She told the court she was "too dizzy" to stand up as she confirmed her name and address.

District judge Anthony Evans said she would remain in custody due to the severity of the charge.

She was charged under the Terrorism Act 2000 following her arrest on the evening of 17 October by Greater Manchester Police.

The charge alleges the possession of the memory stick was linked to the "commission, preparation or instigation of an act of terrorism".

Police said the Dutch authorities were also involved in the inquiry.
