Barcelona train station reopens after bomb scare Madrid & Barcelona train stations evacuated after bomb scare
(about 2 hours later)
A south Barcelona train station has resumed operations after being closed earlier over a bomb scare when security saw what was suspected to be an explosive device in a suitcase. Catalonia police wrote on Twitter early Wednesday that two train lines in the station of Sants de Barcelona were evacuated pending the search by TEDAX, the Spanish bomb disposal unit. The team scanned the suspicious object before the lines were declared reopened for morning commuters. Two major train stations in Barcelona and Madrid, Spain were evacuated Wednesday morning following a bomb scare.
Transport police raised the alarm after a suspected explosive device was discovered, during a routine baggage scan at the Sants railway station in Barcelona, on luggage bound for Madrid.
The Mossos D’Esquadra evacuated the immediate area and later the entire station. The Madrid station was also evacuated so authorities could monitor the high-speed train on which the owner of the suspicious baggage was arriving, at 10:30 local time.
Authorities prevented the train from entering the station and carried out a full examination before declaring a false alarm. All service has been restored to normal.
