Armed robbers stole thousands of pounds of cash from a security officer, police have said.

The security officer was involved in transferring cash at east end Newsagents in Stevenson Street Glasgow when the two masked men threatened him.

One of the robbers had what appeared to be a firearm.

The men took a five-figure sum of cash before running off towards the city centre. The security officer was not hurt during the incident.

The robbery happened at 1110 GMT on Saturday.

One of the robbers is described as being in his 20s, of slim build, and was wearing a black tracksuit with red stripes.

The other was wearing a red jacket with red and white stripes on the back and a cream or white hood, along with dark colour trousers.

Detective Sergeant Allan Burton of Strathclyde Police urged witnesses to contact the force "as a matter of urgency".
