Thriller zombies cut some shapes Thriller zombies set world record
(about 2 hours later)
Willing and able zombies have been called upon to perform Michael Jackson's Thriller dance in an attempt to break a world record. The world record for dancing zombies has been broken in Nottingham.
Organisers of Nottingham's annual games festival GameCity, want to teach more than 1,000 people the pop star's moves. The official count put the number of people performing Michael Jackson's Thriller dance at 1,227 - 199 more than the previous record.
Guinness World Records said the current record stands at 1,028 and was set in Monroeville, Pennsylvania on 28 October this year. Organisers of an annual games festival had put out an appeal for volunteers to fill the Old Market Square and provided costumes, make-up and choreography.
Costumes, make-up and choreography will be provided at the Old Market Square. The dancing began at 1700 BST and but it took officials from Guinness half an hour verify the result.
Zombie shuffle The old record had been set just days before in Monroeville, Pennsylvania on 28 October this year.
GameCity's festival director Iain Simons said people needed to turn up by 1400 GMT on Friday to be transformed into a zombie. Margaret Robinson, who helped arrange the event, said: "It has been fantastic, we have had a huge turnout, far better than we expected, you can't move for dancing zombies.
"We can provide you with a zombie kit, we can train you to walk like a zombie, talk like a zombie, shuffle like a zombie. "We are all zombies tonight, we are all undead, I am covered in blood - very happy."
"We'll train you to do the Thriller dance," said Mr Simons. In March the city also claimed the record for massed Robin Hoods when 1,119 costumed people gathered at the castle.
"As any self-respecting zombie knows, it's very important that they come together and dance the Michael Jackson Thriller dance because that's what zombies do when they congregate."
The actual record attempt will take place at 1700 GMT.
