M27 opens after vehicle pile-up Woman held over motorway pile-up

The M27 in Hampshire has reopened after a nine-vehicle crash which left three people injured - one seriously. A 19-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of careless driving after nine cars crashed on the M27 in Hampshire leaving three people injured.
The accident on the westbound carriageway between junction 5 at Eastleigh and junction 7 at Hedge End, happened on Wednesday night. The accident westbound between junction five at Eastleigh and junction seven at Hedge End, happened on Wednesday night.
Some vehicles overturned and a man with a serious head injury is being treated at Southampton General Hospital. A 33-year-old man suffered serious head injuries and is critical but stable in hospital. Another man and a woman were treated for minor injuries.
The crash caused major tailbacks and diversions were put in place. There is still severe congestion, police said. The motorway was closed overnight which caused major tailbacks.
The Highways Agency has advised people to use alternative routes. Police said they received calls about a series of collisions at about 2330 GMT on Wednesday, which were followed by several shunts until a total of nine vehicles were involved. Two of the cars overturned.
A spokeswoman for Hampshire Constabulary said: "Police particularly want to hear from drivers who avoided involvement in the collisions but who drove around the vehicles to continue their journeys.
"Some of these drivers may have vital information about what happened."
The arrested woman, from Locks Heath in Hampshire, remains in custody.
