The planned closure of the Vestas wind turbine plant at Campbeltown has been put on hold, following interest from another Danish company.

The 100 workers were due to lose their jobs in November but redundancy notices have been postponed for eight weeks.

Enterprise minister Jim Mather, who is also the local MSP, confirmed that talks are ongoing with a potential new operator.

He said it was a valuable opportunity to retain the highly-skilled workforce.

Talks have been taking place for a number of weeks.

Since Danish firm Vestas first set up in Kintyre, the offshore industry has been calling for larger turbines.
