Mother and daughter die in crash Mother and daughter die in crash
(40 minutes later)
A mother and daughter were killed when their car overturned on the A30 in Devon, trapping them inside. A 47-year-old mother and her 12-year-old daughter were killed when their car veered off the A30 in Devon and overturned, trapping them inside.
The pair, from London, were travelling eastbound when the accident happened at Whiddon Down, near Okehampton, on Saturday. They died at the scene. A second daughter, 14, suffered minor injures in the accident near Okehampton on Saturday.
It has not been confirmed whether any other vehicles were involved but one other person is believed to have suffered minor injuries. The family, who were from the London area, were driving a red Toyota Yaris.
The road was closed for several hours while investigations were carried out. Witnesses described the car suddenly leaving the road and veering down an embankment, striking a number of trees before it came to rest upside down.
Devon and Cornwall Police have appealed for witnesses as they try to establish the cause of the crash. The eastbound carriageway was closed for some time to allow the air ambulance to land and investigations to take place.
The mother and daughter were confirmed dead at the scene.
The 14-year-old girl is under observation at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital.
Police are keen to trace the drivers of two vehicles that were following the Toyota and stopped at the scene, but left without leaving their details.
