The row involving Shadow Chancellor George Osborne, a Russian billionaire and an alleged £50,000 rumbles on.

The Daily Mirror feels his reputation may be "damaged beyond repair". "It's better sometimes to put a lame duck out of its misery," the paper writes.

"Don't cross me again," is the Guardian headline. It says the man behind the story has vowed to "destroy" Mr Osborne if he continues to deny any wrongdoing.

But at least the Independent is happy. It says it is thoroughly enjoying the "splendid drama".

'Recessionary horse'

The knives are out for the governor of the Bank of England, with the Daily Telegraph calling for him to step down.

Mervyn King, it says, "has persistently been in the grip of events, rather than in control of them".

The Daily Express criticises the governor for failing to cut interest rates sooner to help the economy.

When rates finally do fall, the paper writes, "they risk being seen as shutting the stable door long after the recessionary horse has bolted".

Fashion 'faux pas'

There is much discussion about would-be US vice president Sarah Palin's revamped wardrobe, which has reportedly cost the Republican Party $150,000 (£92,000).

"Red has emerged as a key colour, worn at upbeat moments," writes the Times.

Shame, it says, about "the faux pas of teaming white tops with black skirts, making her look like a waitress".

The Daily Mail says she may claim to be "the 'hockey mom' champion of small-town America," but she has never been pictured in the same outfit twice.

'Shocking performance'

The bizarre behaviour of former Atomic Kitten singer Kerry Katona occupies several papers.

The Daily Mirror brands her appearance on This Morning "Car crash TV". It says her slurring speech lead to fears she is "spiralling out of control".

The Sun agrees it was a "shocking performance". It claims hundreds of viewers flooded its website to voice their concerns.

"The presenters were clearly worried about her state," the Daily Mail says.
