None of the tickets I came across on Paperticket.co.uk were an unrealistic price - in fact all of them were inflated from the face value price of the ticket, so I don't think it was a stupid mistake to believe these tickets were a certainty.
I feel completely let down and I can't believe this site was not detected earlier. Katie Wellbelove, London
Our credit card company have said we have to wait until the event date before they can process a refund Adrian Whitmarsh, Horsham, UK I purchased two Kings of Leon Tickets from Paperticket.co.uk for my daughter as an early Christmas present on 25 September 2008 for £75 for the concert in December. The money was taken from my account on 27 September. I have sent emails asking where my tickets were only to be told that they would be sent out in the post once they have been printed. I still have not received them. My daughter then alerted me to the BBC headlines saying that the company was closing because of the fraud fears. I have since contacted my Credit Card company to follow it through.Mrs Sian Cox, Cardiff
I paid for a service by credit card. I did not receive the service I should have. I told my credit card company, who at first would not do anything until the payment had gone through, so I said I would not pay the bill as the company involved was vetted and okayed by them, so the contract was with them and guess what I got an instant refund to my credit card account. Quite simply if you pay by credit card and you don't get the goods the credit card company has to give you a refund, something that they don't tell you about maybe so that you will swallow the loss. Don't fall for it! Just keep chasing them. Tony Kelly, Dukinfield
We ordered tickets for the Jingle Bell Ball for a company Christmas outing, charged to our credit card, and have just seen the news story about Paperticket.co.uk being closed down! Clearly we are highly unlikely to get the tickets now. Our credit card company have said we have to wait until the event date and see if the tickets turn up or not before they can process a refund! And the Consumer Direct is a waste of time calling; they know less than the BBC and all they say is contact your credit card company. This is another reason why the government should outlaw secondary ticketing, like the entertainment industry asked them to do last year but they refused! So much for this government protecting the consumer! they just pay lip-service to the idea.Adrian Whitmarsh, Horsham, UK
I purchased 2 tickets for the Russell Brand Concert in Ipswich. Papertickets promised me tickets but I have not received any yet! I have not had very much luck on getting a refund please help!!Mr OLiver Boutell, Harwich England
Here in Norway, You buy tickets on line from one company and receive them in hand from any post office or at certain shops. Works really well.Richard Hill, Oslo, Norway
I bought tickets on the paperticket website last month to see Kings of Leon in December. As I wasn't sure about them I emailed them before I placed my order and received an answer within the hour, so I thought I would take the risk.
I totally agree with Aled Morris from Cardiff (below). Tickets sell out within minutes of going on sale and you'll find them almost immediately on ebay and all sorts of other websites for hundreds of pounds. These ticket agencies make a fortune at the expense of the real fans who never really stand a chance to get a ticket at the original price when they first go on sale. Something just needs to be done, this is ridiculous.Christina, Haslemere
Last week I tried to buy Depeche Mode tickets for the O2 but they were sold out. Paperticket came up as the first company when I googled so I thought they were ok. I tried to book just 2 tickets but instead it charged me for 4! I got a suspicion there was something wrong and I emailed them 3 times since there was no phone number to call on the website. I also phoned my credit card Capital one to try and stop the payment but they could not do anything. This is so disappointing!Karen Entwistle, Northwich, Cheshire The bank has been useless at trying to help me get the money back Darren, Edinburgh
I bought King of Leon tickets for my boyfriend's birthday. I really had no idea they were going to con me. I guess I was blinded by the excitement of getting the tickets. I feel a bit stupid, but luckily I should get money back from my credit card.Phil McIlwaine, Manch, UK
I paid for two Killers tickets a few weeks ago. Consumer Direct have been very helpful but the bank has been useless at trying to help me get the money back. They said they will investigate and I may be refunded??Darren, Edinburgh
Isn't the easy answer that you should have to produce the credit card you used to buy the ticket when you turn up at the gig? That way the touts wouldn't be able to buy up the tickets in advance.John, Chesterfield, England
I bought 2 Kings of Leon tickets for £75 from Paperticket 4 weeks ago, nothing initially came out my account except a mystery £14 payment from tickets.com a few days later. I emailed paperticket to ask what this was about but got no response. Then last Friday, the £75 was taken from me, probably the same day they were shut down. I assumed they took their last chance to gather up all the money they could.
To all the people who think it was obvious, easy for you to say. The tickets were £10 each over face value and simply seemed like a good deal, certainly not too good to be true!Rich Cowley, isleworth I bought 4 Killers tickets and got charged for 6 Lou, London, UK
We used papertickets.co.uk for the Reading festival.
It was very dodgy. The tickets were promised, then promised again and never appeared. Then we were asked to meet them at the site, something which sent shivers down my spine as i know this usually means a no show.
Later they did turn up, took us into the festival on promo passes , then took them back. They have been known to oversell and let down before... Guess I was luckyStephen, Reading
I bought 4 Killers tickets and got charged for 6. I also had a nagging feeling and tried to cancel through my credit card company who were not able to help they said until the charge hit my statement.
I also emailed the company they were using for processing their payment and have since received emails from them (allcharge.com) saying that they were aware of an on-going investigation and that my orders had been cancelled and that my money would be refunded. That hasn't happened yet and I'm hoping that's not part of the fraud too. Currently I'm out of pocket for £345.Lou, London, UK
As a Turkish student in London, I bought 3 killers concert tickets from paperticket.co.uk using a Turkish credit card. Since I used my Turkish credit card, Consumer Direct has said that I might not be able to get a refund at all... How can that work out? Why my rights aren't covered since I am a masters student here and paid 200 pounds for 3 tickets? Any help would be appreciated...
Thanks...Efe, London, UK
I find it amazing that some bands sell out gigs in seconds and 20mins later people are selling them on ebay for double the price. Real fans are having to pay double to see the bands they love and others don't even receive the tickets at all! Ebay should stop advertising tickets and touts should be dealt heavy fines when they are outside venues.Rob, Leeds, UK
I am really annoyed with paperticket. I ordered three tickets for keane the day they were released. Ticket Master at the time would not load on my PC and knowing how fast they sell out I turned to paperticket. Paperticket appeared on my computer as a sponsered link by Google so I thought this would be a safe site. As I paid for my tickets using my debit card I am not entitled to have my cash back. I say bring back more box offices. Nina, Manchester
I bought tickets for myself and my sister-in-law to see The Killers next february for our birthday presents. I have not been to a concert in years and ave never bought tickets like this over the internet before. I had no idea that because the ticket prices were low there might be a problem, I was just looking for a bargain, and many other sites had sold out. Luckily it appears because I paid with a credit card I should get my money back, but I'm not sure whether we'll be able to afford to go now!Jo, Southend Essex
My son ordered his v festival ticket from this company while on duty in Afghanistan along with a few of his colleagues, they all had the money taken from their accounts and did not get their tickets. I have been trying ever since to get a refund for them but never received one, I plan to take the matter further. Sally Reed, Ringwood, Hampshire None of this would happen if the industry cleaned itself up Tarun, Gloucestershire
If any of you have paid by credit card & spent over £100 contact your credit card company & quote a claim under Section 75 of the consumer credit act. The card company are equally liable. They won't tell you they are for obvious reasons. But it needs to be over £100.Derek, Huddersfield
"Shari Vahl, who investigated the story for BBC Radio 4" should be congratulated for her efforts to stop the ordinary man in the street being targeted for their hard earned cash in such turbulent economic times. Good effort, thank youSteve, Blaenau Ffestiniog
None of this would happen if the industry cleaned itself up. Only the act and its official licenced seller should be allowed to sell tickets. All they have to do is have a link from the ticket agency to the act's official website and one going back from the act to the agency to prove it's genuine.
People shouldn't be allowed to re-sell tickets. It should be illegal to buy them from anywhere else.Tarun, Gloucestershire
Depeche Mode at The O2. Bought tickets from the official outlet but could only get seats at the back and was never offered standing tickets. The official outlet (Ticketmaster) has a "Sister Site" (getmein.com) where you can sell your tickets to others. Guess what was on that site at hugely inflated prices minutes after the official tickets went on sale? Correct! Depeche Mode standing tickets. This is a cartel by any other name and genuine fans of all bands are being ripped-off. It's not just the rich bankers that we are reading about in the news that are filled to the brim with greed. It's EVERYWHERE!Andrew Verrecchia, Dunfermline
I saw the Metallica London gigs on this website last week, before they were even announced by the band, the fan club or anyone else. They were selling tickets even though I knew they didn't actually exist. I feel sorry for the people who've lost money but you really have to check all your sources and reputable websites if you want to avoid this happening - there are too many con artists out there just waiting to rip people off.Susan, London, UK I think Google should take some responsibility on what companies they allow to advertise with them Peter, London
I went onto Paperticket on the 10th of October and purchased 2 tickets for Kings of Leon for a total sum of £95 and received a confirmation email saying my tickets would be posted out 6weeks before the concert. I have just spoken to my credit card company and lucky for me the funds haven't come out of my account. However I am worried they may try and use my details in future.Alex , Manchester
I think Google should take some responsibility on what companies they allow to advertise with them. Google were informed about Paperticket as well as SOS Masterticket some time before they closed, but took no action.
These fraudulent ticket companies can not operate on such a scale without the use of Google Ad words.Peter, London
Would it not be more beneficial if the Government organised a central system where they were the seller of all tickets on behalf of all artists?
The government already have our details on a database (albeit lost!) credit card companies have our financial details (which the government monitor) so sales of tickets would be easy - everyone goes to one website to purchase a ticket and the government could add a £5 surcharge for administration per ticket. Additional money into central government for use for the arts! What a winner!!!Chris, Wiltshire
I purchased tickets on the website at the mid October for the Kings of Leon, confirmation was sent through a couple of hours later. I have since received an email from a company dealing with there transactions informing me that I will get a refund?? I have been in touch with my bank and the payment by credit card has been taken, I have now had to cancel my Credit Card which is being re-issued as a precaution as I now have no faith in the system.
Clare, Liverpool
I think what should be done is that the bands themselves should have on their website a bit detailing the places to get legitimate tickets. If a site isn't listed by them and claims to have tickets? Avoid it.Ollie It was the desperation of people like me that made them so much money Penny, London, UK
I bought tickets from Paperticket.co.uk for the AC/DC gig at the O2.
A friend who had bought and received tickets from them had recommended them, as I was struggling to find any tickets on the other websites. For some reason I went back on to the website that afternoon, I'm not sure why, but I am glad I did, because that is when I saw the message from the police!!
Payment hadn't been taken out of my account, but I cancelled the card just in case. I have learnt my lesson. I was so desperate to get these tickets, and in such a rush that I didn't check the website out first. I suppose it was the desperation of people like me that has made them so much money....

I went to the British Grand Prix this year and had bought tickets through Paperticket and although it all seemed organised and legitimate it was very much the opposite and only by sheer luck we received tickets (albeit not the ones we had purchased). Considering my history with Paperticket I am not surprised by their forced closure.Peter, Carlisle
I have not dealt with Paperticket but I did buy tickets from Xclusive tickets, which is also mentioned in the article. I bought 3 tickets for Take That's beautiful world tour and they never arrived. All O would say is just be very careful where you get tickets from because I know how much hassle it causes. It took the bank months to refund my money, so be careful!!Leighan, Bradford
I think this is an absolute disgrace, and everyone who has commented here is right, something really needs to be done. It's really annoying when you think you've got plenty of time to buy tickets and then discover they've sold out! I used to think this was because of big demand from fans, but now I understand it's because of these fraudsters. Grr!! Extremely irritating. If I can't get tickets from the big outlets, I usually just give up on a gig, cuz it's too much money to give away if you don't have 100% trust for who you're buying it from. Rory, Moy, Co Tyrone
I purchased tickets for Kings of Leon in Glasgow from paperticket. I saw the negative press on various forums and contacted them via email, they replied telling me not to believe all I read on the internet and that I would receive the tickets a week before the event. I saw this today and I'm really not shocked. Someone needs to be made an example because of this and not the music-loving British public.Chris, Aberdeen Agencies like this take advantage of the fact that demand outweighs supply e Paul Nelson, Isleworth

I bought one Keane ticket with my debit card on Friday 26th September and received an email confirming the purchase - but with no details about what I had purchased. I also unfortunately suggested to a friend that he get his tickets on Paperticket since standing tickets were sold out on Ticket Master. He bought 2 tickets. I looked at these last week, as they claimed to have tickets for the forthcoming Oasis UK stadium tour. I have not dealt with Papertickets but I would like to use this opportunity to highlight the government's complete ignorance to this ever growing problem. Music fans, promoters and venues have been trying to convince the government for years that ticket touting is an ever-increasing black market trade which is profiteering at it's 'legitimate' best. People will always try to excuse it by saying "if people are willing to pay for it, there's no problem" but that doesn't wash. Something must be done because it's the fans who suffer at the expense of immoral scalpers who haven't an interest in music.Aled Morris, CardiffI have not dealt with Papertickets but I would like to use this opportunity to highlight the government's complete ignorance to this ever growing problem. People are using these sites because ticket touting is legalised by the industry. Ticketmaster sells out in seconds, amazingly always to the same people. It happened with Oasis, The Killers and AC/DC recently. I predict it will happen again on Friday when the next batch of Oasis tickets go on sale. This is just one in a very long line of dodgy ticket websites. Last Friday tickets for AC/DC at the O2 went on sale and sold out within a few minutes. Shortly afterwards I found a website selling "VIP seated" tickets, showing the floor area as seated, for £325. There is no floor seating at the gig, and tickets were £45 originally. So not only was this site selling tickets for an area that didn't exist, they were 7 times the original price! This is just one in a very long line of dodgy ticket websites.
