Armed police are surrounding a house in Cardiff in an alert thought to be linked to an earlier incident where a man was killed and another injured. Police are continuing to hunt for a man wanted in connection with a suspected robbery which left one man dead and another with serious head injuries.
Witnesses reported armed officers taking up positions in Penrhos Crescent in the Rumney area. Armed police surrounded a house in Cardiff in the search for the man after hostages were reportedly taken at an industrial park in Pontypool.
It follows a reported robbery at a driver recruitment agency called Driverline 247 in New Inn, Pontypool. The offices of the driver recruitment agency were also set alight.
Hostages were reportedly taken in the earlier incident at 1325 BST where the building was also set alight. In Cardiff, homes in Penrhos Crescent, Rumney, were evacuated after witnesses said armed police took up positions.
One man died, another was seriously injured and two men were later treated for smoke inhalation during the afternoon incident. The alert followed the reported robbery at the recruitment agency, Driverline 247, in New Inn, Pontypool.
All three of the injured men were taken to the Royal Gwent Hospital in Newport. Gwent Police said they were called at around 1325 BST and when officers arrived they found one mad fatally injured and another with seriously head injured.
Gwent Police used dogs and a helicopter in the search for the suspect following the earlier incident at South Pontypool Industrial Park and Torfaen Business Centre. The injured man was taken to the Royal Gwent Hospital in Newport as were two other men who were treated for smoke inhalation from the blaze started during the incident.

Andrea Osborne is in a car outside the police cordon in Penrhos Cresent, with her brother Jason and three-and-a-half-year-old niece Ayah. Andrea Osborne was one of a number of people stopped from crossing the police cordon at the scene.
She said: "My brother went round the corner shop with his little girl and when he came back, that's when the police turned up, literally right outside my mother's door." She found herself a car with her brother Jason and her three-and-a-half-year-old niece Ayah.
