The operation began at about 0330 BST after a man suffered serious head injuries in an attack in Castle Road. The alarm was raised at 0330 BST by two neighbours who saw a group of men attacking the injured man's car in Castle Road.
Police believed the man's car had been fired at, which led them to deploy armed officers. Police believed the car had been fired at, and deployed armed officers around two houses in Moyses Meadow.

"He would have looked very messy and there were some serious concerns about him, but they are diminishing."
