A man has died after being shot in the street in Kennington, south London. A man has died after being shot in a street in south London.
The Metropolitan Police said they were called to White Hart Street shortly after 2100 BST on Friday, where the man was found with gunshot wounds. Police were called to White Hart Street, Kennington, on Friday night where a 21-year-old had suffered gunshot wounds.
Paramedics and an air ambulance were called but the man died at the scene, despite ambulance crews spending more than 40 minutes trying to save him. Metropolitan Police officers have said they are keeping an open mind about the motive for killing.
The area around the scene of the shooting has been cordoned off while police investigate. Detectives from force's Operation Trident team, which looks at gun crime in the African-Caribbean community, are investigating the murder.
A member of staff at the nearby White Hart pub in Kennington Lane said customers at the front of the building had heard gunfire. Det Insp Tony Broughton said: "This murder happened in a busy part of town, just after nine o'clock on a Friday night.
He said: "We saw loads of police cars around and we heard that someone had been shot or was firing a gun. Gunshots heard
"A couple of the guys at the front said they had heard gun shots." "We know there were many people in the area.
"Several witnesses have already come forward, but there will be others who saw something or know something. We need those people to get in touch with us."

A post-mortem examination will be held on Sunday. Next of kin have been informed, but officers are awaiting formal identification.
