Both boys were given first aid by people at the scene. Police said a report would be prepared for the Staffordshire coroner. Their parents, Berdine and James, said George would be remembered as "a strong, brave, loving son" who "effortlessly enriched" people's lives.

A spokeswoman for Staffordshire Police said: "Our thoughts are with the family at this time. George had been in a critical, but stable, condition at the University of North Staffordshire hospital since Monday's incident.

In a statement, the family, who also have a daughter, Ellie, said: "George was a loving and caring little boy with a huge personality.
"Everyone who met him instantly fell in love with both him and his infectious manner," they said.
"He would often be at the centre of our children's fun and games and he will be missed very much by all his family and friends.
"George will be forever remembered as a strong, brave, loving son and sibling who effortlessly enriched the lives of all the people he met."
They added that his favourite pastime was chasing around the family home either away from or after his twin brother, who is making an "incredible recovery".
