Reaction
John Hamilton of the Unite union said the announcement would lead to a delay of up to eight weeks in the payment of redundancy payment to staff.
He said the staff would now have to make an application to the government insolvency fund.
"It's very disappointing that the staff won't be able to leave at the end of the month with some dignity and with a redundancy cheque in their hand," said Mr Hamilton.
"They're very demoralised and upset."
The theatre's board of directors have refused to reveal the extent of their debts, but the union claims the shortfall is in the region of £90,000.
