Homes 'failing' on energy savings
http://news.bbc.co.uk/go/rss/-/1/hi/scotland/5354484.stm Version 0 of 1. About two-thirds of households would fail an energy efficiency test, according to Scottish Gas. A survey by the utility firm estimated that 2.3 million homes in Scotland could make more than £100m in energy efficiency savings. Despite the warning, Scottish Gas said Scotland's city dwellers did better than those in the south of England. Aberdeen was listed as fourth for energy efficiency, while Glasgow came in eighth. The company has launched a UK-wide initiative to raise awareness among customers about the scale of the problem. Simple Steps Scottish Gas said that £11bn of savings could be made by the year 2020 and urged energy users to follow some simple steps to help save on bills and the environment. These included adjusting central heating, switching off unused appliances and generally being more aware of energy consumption. A recent YouGov poll, conducted for energy company EDF, found that London was the least energy efficient region in the UK. It found that only 65% of Londoners regularly used energy saving light bulbs or switched off TVs and computers at night. |
