The plane was due to land on time in St Petersburg, a spokeswoman at the airport told the AFP news agency. Turkish Airlines manager Temel Kotil said the assailant was drunk.
"He was so drunk, he gave a note to a stewardess claiming to have explosives on him," Mr Kotil told Turkey's NTL television.
No explosives were discovered on the passenger, whose identity was not immediately known.
The incident happened in Belarussian air space.
