The Lebanese army has been helping fire-fighters tackle major forest fires in the Shouf area south of Beirut.

At least two people have been injured, and reports say about 1,235 acres (500 hectares) of land around Dibbiyeh, Aley and Sirjbal have been badly damaged.

Students were evacuated from a nearby university and families fled the area.

Last month, Lebanese conservation experts warned that the government was failing to take adequate measures to prepare for or prevent forest fires.
