Re “The Child Care Juggling Act” (Op-Ed, July 30):

Thanks to Julia Henly for bringing up a vital, if complicated, concern for working parents.

When our daughter was born 44 years ago, women were going to work because inflation rates were so high that we had to. Fortunately for me, my retired father-in-law volunteered to step in and care for his granddaughter.

But things were different for friends of ours who lived in France. There, companies had child care at the work site. It was loving and education-based, given by qualified, licensed caregivers and free, because the next generation in France is considered so important.

It’s time we got our priorities straight in this country.
