| The blaze at Welbeck Mansions on Inglewood Road is now being tackled by around 100 firefighters and 15 fire engines, the London Fire Brigade said. | |
| “Due to concerns that the roof could collapse inward firefighters evacuated residents from the top floor. In addition, fire crews assisted two people from the first floor and a number of other residents self-evacuated from lower floors,” Station Manager Clainton Murray said in a press release. “Around 50 residents are using a local public house as a rest center.” | |
| Footage from the scene showed firefighters hosing down the flames as first responders try to contain the fire from spreading into nearby buildings. The 19-century Victorian mansion engulfed by the flames could be seen from miles away across London. So far there have been no reports of casualties; authorities have cordoned off the area trying to deal with the calamity. The cause of the fire is under investigation. | |
