A total of 320 people have been shot as a warning to others, with police making no apology for taking "firm measures" against criminals in Jakarta. Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International have condemned Jakarta police for their heavy-handed approach to fighting crime. Jakarta Police spokesman Prabowo Argo Yuwono said that nearly 2,000 people have been arrested in July’s anti-crime campaign, with Yuwono making no apology for police taking “firm measures.” In total, 320 accused criminals have been shot as a warning to other criminals.Human rights groups have been critical of the heavy handed police action. Amnesty International told the ABC that Jakarta Police are “in breach of Indonesia’s constitution and Indonesia’s principle of the rule of law.”
