The court heard how Mulenga had been jailed for 30 months in September 2005 for possessing heroin and crack cocaine with intent to supply. After seeing Mr Oyebola stand up next to one friend, Mulenga pulled the gun from his waistband and fired a warning shot - but the former boxer "stood his ground" so the gunman turned the weapon on him.
Judge Rook said: "This is a truly tragic case. James Oyebola was said to be in a happy mood that night, politely telling people that they should not smoke."
He told the gunman: "You are part of the gun culture that blights our cities."
