A woman who flew into Britain has died of a suspected drug overdose after bags believed to contain cocaine broke open in her stomach.

Police are now trying to trace a man thought to have entered the country with her who may have swallowed drugs.

The woman, aged 40, from Barry, south Wales, died on Sunday morning after being treated in hospital.

South Wales Police said they were desperate to find David Case, 43, who could be in "serious danger".

The woman, whose name has not been released, was admitted to Llandough Hospital, near Cardiff, on Saturday morning and treated for a suspected overdose.

The hospital found that her stomach contained "a large number of small bags containing what is believed to be cocaine".

Police said some of these bags had broken, and she died at 0640 BST on Sunday.

Mr Case has lived at addresses in the Cardiff and Barry areas.

He is white, 5ft 10in (1.78m), with fair hair and blue/green eyes, and speaks with a local accent.

Det Supt Simon Clarke said: "Given the tragic death of the woman we are desperate to find David Case.

"Our aim and main concern is that he is fit and well. My staff are working with a family who have lost a loved one and I don't want this to be repeated."
