Police hunt for car crash driver Man detained over road incident

The driver of a car which crashed in Orkney leaving four passengers in hospital is being sought by police. A man has been taken into custody in connection with a serious road crash in Orkney on Sunday.

One passenger raised the alarm and all four were taken to the local hospital before two were flown to Aberdeen with serious injuries. Two men found at the scene of the crash have been transferred to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary due to their condition.
Police said there was no sign of the driver and their search was continuing. Two cars were also stolen in the area and one was later found crashed. Police said a man is expected to appear at Kirkwall Sheriff Court charged with multiple road traffic offences.
Information plea
A Northern Constabulary police spokesman said: "The vehicle, a black BMW with five occupants, two males and two females were taken to nearby Balfour Hospital suffering with multiple injuries.
"The condition of one is described as critical."
He said the fifth occupant of the vehicle was believed to be a local man.
"He has not yet been traced and police are increasingly concerned for his welfare," he added.
Officers said they were remaining open minded and appealed for anyone with information to come forward.
