Papers focus on poisoned ex-spy

The Sunday Times and the Mail On Sunday both have interviews with Mr Litvinenko's widow and carry a photograph of her on their front pages. Marina Litvinenko tells both papers her husband's last words were: "Marina, I love you so much." According to the Sunday Telegraph, Mr Litvinenko was sent a series of letters warning him of a plot to kill him. The marriage of actress Lucy Davis - better known as Dawn from BBC comedy The Office - features in many papers. The Daily Star, the Sunday Express and the Observer all have photographs on their front pages from the wedding in St Paul's Cathedral, London. 'Crusade' In one picture she is being kissed by her husband, Owain Yeoman, and her father, Jasper Carrott. The Observer explains that because her father is an OBE she is allowed to marry at St Paul's. The Conservative Party is the subject of several stories in the papers. The Observer reveals the party is planning "the biggest crusade for personal morality" since John Major. The Sunday Times, the Sunday Telegraph and the News of the World say a report for the party by Iain Duncan Smith will signal a number of warnings. Racism report According to the Sunday Times these include unmarried parents "driving a generation of children into crime and drug dependency". The Independent On Sunday says it has obtained a report on racism in schools that was ordered by ministers. It says the study exposes widespread "institutional" racism. The Sunday Mirror criticises the government and Royal Mail over plans to close thousands of post offices - many in rural areas. And the Sunday Times reports on an Islamic group teaching that dying while fighting for the British armed forces is an act of martyrdom. |
